Location: St Leonard’s, Sydney, NSW
Reporting to: Senior Legal Counsel / Head of Legal

About the Role

We are seeking an Australian-qualified Construction Lawyer with 3-5 years' post-admission experience (PAE) to provide legal support across major construction, infrastructure, energy and engineering projects. The role involves advising on contract negotiation, project delivery, claims and dispute resolution, while partnering closely with commercial, procurement and project teams to manage legal risk and support business objectives. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused lawyer looking to grow their career in a dynamic and project-driven environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Contract Review and Negotiation

  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of construction and commercial agreements, including EPC contracts, consultancy agreements, subcontracts, supply agreements, NDAs, operation and maintenance agreements, framework and alliance agreements
  • Advise project teams on contractual obligations, risk allocation, and commercial implications.
  • Support tender and bid teams in identifying and managing legal and contractual risks.

Project Support

  • Provide practical and timely legal advice during project execution.
  • Assist business stakeholders in interpreting contractual provisions and resolving project issues.
  • Support project teams with variations, extension of time claims, defect management, security and payment issues
  • Assist in managing contract compliance and governance requirements.

Claims and Dispute Resolution

  • Support the management of contractual claims and disputes.
  • Assist in preparing legal positions, correspondence, notices, and settlement documentation.
  • Work with external counsel on adjudications, expert determinations, mediations, arbitrations and litigation when required.
  • Advise on dispute avoidance strategies and early resolution opportunities.

Corporate and Compliance Support

  • Prepare board minutes and powers of attorney.
  • Provide advice on general commercial and corporate matters impacting the business.
  • Managing compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of legal templates, policies, and governance processes.

 

The profile we’re looking for

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admitted legal practitioner in Australia, holding or eligible to obtain a current practising certificate.
  • 3-5 years of post-admission experience (PAE) within a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team supporting construction, infrastructure, engineering, or energy projects.
  • Strong expertise in drafting, reviewing, negotiating construction and commercial contracts.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian construction and commercial law.
  • Experience advising on project delivery, claims, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution.
  • Excellent legal drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercially minded and pragmatic approach to legal advice.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, research, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Collaborative team player with attention to detail and a willingness to support a broad range of legal matters.
